Trouble days in Euro Zone ? Probably a phase that every evolving country goes through and if you look as Euro zone as a unified country, it is still early days for it then. Yunan is facing the foremost risk of faltering and is closely followed by sinking Gondolas, paling Mediterraneans and Guinness guzzlers. Reason, I'll just use the analogy 'what happens if one drinks too much too quick - dehydration'. Solution - Rehydrate them in ICU. Yes, that is what I believe should be done, create an incubator for young but economically unstable countries of EU , keep them on one common pacemaker platform. Relax the tough EU maintenance norms for a while but set strict performance benchmarks to allow these feeble 'developed' world countries to stand back on their own feet and catch up with the pace of other stronger EU partners. Once in intensive care, survival of the fittest should be the call and inept should vanish.
Here, I would like to stress on the point of keeping them together instead of taking the case 1 by 1. Because, with some finer approximations, all the ailing countries are facing a similar disease thus it would be better to treat all of them together. They have similar financial structures and dependencies, fainted shadows of their glorious past, these countries are now predominantly tourism based economies with little contribution from the manufacturing and trading side. Industries if any are more of high end which have little or no takers in the current no-discretionary buying environment. In my views, EU should consider this gamut as whole and assist in strengthening its low end industrial base, promote heavy intra-group trades and allow efficient flow of labor and resources to promote individual as well as collective growth, Ala Adam Smith's International Trade Theory.
This concentrated approach would not only allow EU to eliminate the root cause of the problem for ever and for all but also support the cause of rapidly deteriorating Euro. The union has worked hard in brining up a strong alternate global currency and now the job ahead is to maintain its sheen. Can a weak foundation cannot support a strong fortress ?
That's me, however I am sure that EU champions sitting in land of chocolates and diamond are scratching their bald heads with more sincerity keeping long term implications as primal focus on this burning issue.
Passing thought, less should they forget the eastern Europeans countries..
